Darron's growing repertoire, ranging from Baroque to contemporary pieces, already includes 20 roles in opera, 10+ major concert works in five differently languages.  Below is a list, which also includes roles performed, in preparation and identified as ideal for this artist.

BEHIND THE CURTAIN

Darron Flagg’s musical journey started at his mother’s knee, working on gospel duets with his twin brother, Aaron, as they toured churches performing arrangements of standard hymns. Drawn initially to piano, clarinet, and tenor saxophone, Darron developed his musicianship through his junior high and high school years. A member of the inaugural class at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), he and his brother, a trumpeter, further developed their talents. During his time at LACHSA, he experienced the power of drama and the magic of dance and fine arts through his classmates.

While in high school, Darron auditioned and won the role of “Sal Jr.” in the Percy Adlon directed film Bagdad Café, starring CCH Pounder, Jack Palance, and Christine Kaufmann. In that role, he performed and recorded Bach pieces on piano for the film’s soundtrack. This experience directly led to his passion for foreign languages, as he later studied German, Italian, and French. He was frustrated that he could not converse with the crew, who mostly spoke only German during the production. In college, he performed Shakespeare and acted in Johann Wolfgang Goethe’s Faust and Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s The Visit, performed in German. LACHSA offered students several unique experiences, but it was a performance of Puccini’s La Bohème with Plácido Domingo at the Shrine Auditorium that changed Darron’s artistic trajectory. For the first time, he saw an art form that brought so many disciplines together.

At the same time, his academic abilities led him to California State University, Northridge, where he minored in German. He later pursued his law degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, followed by a Master of Business Administration with a Finance concentration at the Thunderbird School of Global Management. A lifelong learner, Darron later pursued certifications from Harvard Law School, Willamette University, and Stanford Business School. With this training, he worked initially in the media and entertainment industry in marketing and finance. He held roles with the Writers Guild of America, Summit Entertainment (now part of Lionsgate Entertainment), MCA Universal, Soldano Amplification, and the City Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. After business school, he took a role with Intel Corporation, a multinational technology company best known for CPU (central processing unit) and flash memory, serving as a Senior Financial Analyst. While at Intel, he moved from finance into the legal organization, supporting sales and several business units, rising to the role of Associate Director. After several years, he accepted a Vice President role at PowerSchool, a global edutech company. In a short time, he became General Counsel and supported the company’s initial public offering in 2021 on the New York Stock Exchange. He later served as a compliance and regulatory officer focused on global privacy, AI governance, and corporate secretary duties, managing a global team of professionals.

Throughout his corporate career, Darron continued to hone his musical skills, performing in an average of 3 to 5 operas or concerts every year. Musically, he developed through coaching sessions and vocal lessons with renowned artists such as Bruce Ford, Lawrence Brownlee, Susan Mentzer, Ann Baltz, Cristina Stanescu, and Gianni Savelli. He was fortunate to meet Yoo Ri Clark at church, and their friendship led him to travel to Italy to study with her vocal instructors, Lisa Paglin and Marianna Brilla of the New Voice Studio. Implementing their Vocal Restoration Brilla-Paglin™ principles has been a spiritual-level endeavor. As a lyric leggiero tenor, his voice is lightweight, flexible, and possesses a high range extension while maintaining a uniquely resonant timbre. His talents are well suited to the music of Mozart, Rossini, and Bellini, in addition to contemporary works.

In recent years, Darron has been led to focus more deeply on his passion for singing. He has been sincerely humbled and blessed with opportunities in 2025. In that year, he performed French arias in Paris, France at the famed Salle Cortot, sang the tenor solo in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at Disney Hall, performed the role of Tebaldo in Bellini’s I Capuleti e I Montecchi, and gave a solo recital at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California.
